How C4B contributes to VERDE Edificios 2030

VERDE Edificios 2030 rewards bioclimatic design and a building ready for the climate of 2030 and 2050. C4B provides the climate data, the future scenarios and the passive and energy analysis behind those indicators. This guide lists every VERDE indicator C4B contributes to, what the platform delivers, and what outstanding information or analysis is required to earn it.

What the symbols mean

  • (+)
Can contribute towards points or creditsThe module delivers some or all of the analysis or evidence the criterion is scored on.
  • →
Provides design directionThe module shapes the design decision; the credit is earned once the team develops the design in detail and documents it.
  • •
Provides the data basisThe module supplies some or all of the underlying data; the team interprets it and produces the evidence required to claim the point.
  • –
No contributionNothing in this scheme that the module speaks to.

The symbol beside each criterion is C4B’s strongest contribution to it; the symbols beside the modules show what each module contributes on its own.

CE 01 · 6.24 %

Consumo de energía primaria

C4B modules used

  • →Preliminary Energy Balance
  • →Passive Design Strategies for Indoor Environments
  • →Energy Use: Orientation and Aspect Ratio Optimization

What C4B contributes

The preliminary energy balance, a comparison of orientation and form, and passive strategies that reduce primary energy demand at concept stage.

What the team completes

The indicator is scored on the official energy calculation of the final design, produced by the energy consultant with a recognised tool.

CE 03.01 · 4.65 %

Generación de energía renovable en la parcela

C4B modules used

  • →PV Energy: Aggregate Yearly Potential
  • →Optimal PV Panel Orientation
  • →Wind Energy: Aggregate Yearly Potentialcoming soon
  • →Geothermal Potential
  • →PV and Wind Energy Potential: Yearly Distributioncoming soon

What C4B contributes

The on-site PV and geothermal potential, with the optimal orientation. The wind potential and the distribution of generation across the year are coming soon.

What the team completes

Design and install the systems, and document the renewable energy generated on the plot. C4B does not model the existing context: account for the neighbouring buildings, trees and terrain, which shade the roof and facades, change the wind at the site and lower the yield.

CM 03.01–03 · 5.28 %

Análisis de ciclo de vidacoming soon

C4B modules used

  • →Suggested Focus for Reducing Overall Carbon Emissionscoming soon
  • •Country Average Embodied / Operational Energy Ratioscoming soon

What C4B contributes

Coming soon: the balance of embodied against operational energy and a recommended focus for reducing carbon, to steer early design choices.

What the team completes

Carry out the building LCA — GWP and the other impact indicators — with a recognised tool, and use it as a design tool. The end-of-works update (CM 03.04) follows construction.

Data to obtain: Material quantities and environmental product declarations.

C4B modules used

  • →Daylight Analysiscoming soon

What C4B contributes

Coming soon: daylight provision to EN 17037 method 2, at the minimum, medium and high levels, for a representative room per facade from the project’s climate file.

What the team completes

Simulate every assessed space of the design with a program validated against EN 17037 and report the share of spaces that meet their level. Measured surface reflectances avoid the 10 % deduction for default values.

Data to obtain: Surface reflectances, the visible light transmittance of the glazing, and the buildings and trees that obstruct sky or sun.

C4B modules used

  • →Daylight Analysiscoming soon

What C4B contributes

Coming soon: the daylight glare probability (DGP) to EN 17037 with each shading device, for a representative room per facade.

What the team completes

Show DGP at or below 0.40 for at least 95 % of the time in the spaces for reading, writing and screen work, or follow the prescriptive route with occupant-operable opaque protection.

Data to obtain: Surface reflectances, the visible light transmittance of the glazing, and the buildings and trees that obstruct sky or sun.

Calificación de la demanda de calefacción y refrigeración

C4B modules used

  • →Preliminary Energy Balance

What C4B contributes

The preliminary energy balance, with direction on reducing heating and cooling demand.

What the team completes

The rating comes from the official demand calculation of the final design.

  • →Typical Hourly Temperature, Humidity and Adaptive Comfort
  • →Passive Design Strategies for Indoor Environments
  • →Technical Comfort Strategies

What C4B contributes

Passive and technical strategies to widen the comfort range, based on the site’s hourly climate.

What the team completes

Run the dynamic simulation, including the HVAC systems, to count the hours outside setpoint.

  • (+)Location Information and Data Summary
  • •Climate Zone
  • →Passive Design Strategies for Indoor Environments
  • →Comfort Strategies for Outdoor Environments
  • →Wind Protection Module (beta)
  • (+)Project Summary report

What C4B contributes

Current and future climate data for the building’s service life — the basis of the physical climate risk assessment (EE 03.01) — with passive strategies for current and future climate and outdoor comfort recommendations.

What the team completes

Plan and implement the solutions for the critical risks (EE 03.02), simulate the hours outside setpoint for 2030 and 2050 (EE 03.03), and set the outdoor design conditions for the cooling systems (EE 03.04).

Data to obtain: The building’s expected service life; natural hazard maps for the site — flood zones from the SNCZI viewer, seismic, landslide and wildfire risk; the exposure and sensitivity of the building’s components and systems; the signature of a qualified natural-risk specialist; the cost, timing and budget of each adaptation measure; and the maximum outdoor temperature the specified cooling equipment is rated for.

Diseño bioclimático

C4B modules used

  • →Passive Design Strategies for Indoor Environments
  • →Sun Path Diagrams
  • →Solar Radiation
  • →Window Shading Recommendations

What C4B contributes

Bioclimatic design strategies (CC 01.01) and sun, radiation and shading analysis for the solar control of the envelope (CC 01.02).

What the team completes

Implement the strategies and specify the envelope — transmittance, solar control, air permeability. The testing indicator (CC 01.03: blower door, thermography) is carried out on site. C4B does not model the existing context: account for the neighbouring buildings, trees and terrain that shade the facades.

Data to obtain: Thermal and solar properties of the specified envelope products.

Working with C4B on a VERDE project

  1. Run the site in C4B early

Enter the project location at pre-design or concept stage, while orientation, form and the energy concept are still open.

  2. Share the PDF report and the module outputs

Pass the PDF report and the individual module outputs to the design team, energy modeller and VERDE assessor or consultant.

  3. Work through “What the team completes”

It is the checklist of what remains for each criterion: the analyses, designs and data that turn C4B’s contribution into an awarded credit.

Frequently asked questions

Can C4B earn VERDE points on its own?

C4B contributes the analysis, design direction or data behind each criterion. Every point is earned by the project team and confirmed by the assessor on the evidence submitted.

Is C4B endorsed by GBCe?

No. C4B is independent of Green Building Council España (GBCe) and is not a VERDE-approved tool. It produces climate, energy and comfort analysis that the team uses and submits as part of its own evidence; the assessor decides what it is worth.

Why are the VERDE indicator names in Spanish?

They are given exactly as they appear in the VERDE Edificios 2030 assessment tool, so you can find each one in the tool and in the assessor’s documents. The descriptions of what C4B contributes and what the team completes are in English.

When should we run C4B on a VERDE project?

At pre-design or concept stage, while orientation, form and the energy concept are still open. Enter the project location, share the PDF report and the individual module outputs with the design team, energy modeller and VERDE assessor or consultant, then work through what the team completes for each criterion.
